The salary range for this position is $37.00 - $58.04 (Hourly Rate).

Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description

The Pediatric/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Lead reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Pediatric/Adolescent SANE Lead participates in an interdisciplinary approach to meet the expectations of those we serve. Ensures those completing Pediatric /Adolescent SANE training are actively involved in the continued evidence-based development of best practices to ensure individualized and desired outcomes for the patient population that we serve. Support the completion of all required elements of the Pediatric/Adolescent Clinical Log in collaboration with the SANE Program Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acts as a resource (mentor and preceptor) to Pediatric/Adolescent SANE program participants.
  • Completes Peer Review of Pediatric SANE cases, audits all sexual assault documentation, and communicates issues with other practicing SANE(s) and ED leadership in a timely fashion.
  • Functions in a teaching and collaborative role, facilitates Pediatric SANE Simulations (obtains simulation facilitator status within 6 months of hire)
  • Provides a learning atmosphere by sharing knowledge with coworkers; participates in orientation of new staff by providing content relevant to caring for pediatric/adolescent sexually abuse/assaulted patients.
  • Functions as a role model and preceptor in patient care, provides a high level of clinical expertise by selecting and preparing nurses for the Pediatric/Adolescent SANE role
  • Acts autonomously following the professional standards as outlined by the Sexual Assault Survivors Emergency Treatment Act (SASETA), the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, the International Association of Forensic Nurses Scope and Standards of Practice, and unit specific protocols appropriate to those served.
  • Facilitates change to enhance professionalism, efficiency, and competence within the Pediatric/Adolescent SANE program.
  • Enhances professional growth and development by participating in, utilizing current evidence-based information, and keeping abreast of current trends in Forensic and SANE nursing practice.
  • Collaborates with SANE Coordinator to develop best practice for pediatric/adolescent sexually abused/assaulted patients.
  • Maintains documentation standards with accurate, timely and complete recording and reporting; reviews all pediatric sexual abuse/assault charting to ensure staff compliance with SASETA.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current clinical concepts by attending in-services, department meetings, hospital meetings and seminars as well as reading professional journals.
  • Work requires analytical ability necessary to assess physical, psychological, and social needs of pediatric/adolescent patients to review the individualized care plans and evaluate responses to medical and nursing interventions completed by the Pediatric/Adolescent SANEs and those in training.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing
  • Current RN Illinois license in good standing
  • National SANE-P Certification
  • Maintain clinical competence through clinical worktime or on-call availability
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills including crucial conversations
  • BLS certification upon hire and required to remain current
  • Earn 4 Continuing Education Credits annually related to pediatric/adolescent sexual assault/abuse care, advancement in technology and innovations within the specialty

Preferred:

  • PALS or ENPC certified upon hire and required to remain current
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
