Description

The Manager, Perfusion reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Manages the business through an understanding of healthcare economics, current industry trends, and departmental budgets. Possesses knowledge of current technology used in healthcare and thinks strategically.  Leads the people by using communication skills to build trusting interdisciplinary relationships, engages in conflict management, coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and staff development. Fosters an environment for shared decision making. Develops the leader within by engaging in a reflective practice, developing a career path, demonstrating personal and professional accountability, and maintaining active membership in professional organization.

Responsibilities:

    • Customer Focus:
      • Clearly identifies the internal and external customer(s) for their unit or service area and their respective requirements/expectations.
      • Actively seeks methods of concurrent and retrospective feedback from customers, listens to customer feedback and implements solutions and/or interventions as appropriate.
      • Continually examines ways to improve business relationships with customers, suppliers, and the community
      • Regular meetings with local leaders to review quality, efficiency, financial and growth metrics and own action plans related to perfusion
    • May function as a Clinical Perfusionist based on department need
    • Creative Leadership:
      • Develops strategy for system-wide competency of perfusionists
      • Translates organizational vision into a unit or service area vision that engages team members in contributing to and achieving that vision.
    • Coaching and Development:
      • Provides feedback to improve employee performance and engagement.
      • Tracks coaching discussions and performance of team members; Develops and implements performance improvement plans when necessary to ensure accountability.
      • Seeks ways to match team members’ talents and career interests with organizational opportunities.

      • Seeks new ideas from a wide range of sources; encourages others to share knowledge and best practices.
      • Maintains active membership in Professional Organization and shares current, relevant information

    • Provides caregivers with an environment that supports their professional practice, health and well-being.
      • Coaches and mentors and develops caregivers in their professional practice and career development.
      • Develops plan for transition into practice of new perfusionists.
      • Promotes development of caregivers by creating individualized development plans.
      • Partners with physician in co-leadership model to build a collaborative inter-professional practice environment.
      • Conducts mid-year and annual performance evaluations with all professional caregivers.
      • Participates in the disciplinary process as needed.
    • Serves as the clinical expert for the specific patient population
      • Ensures process improvement initiatives are sustained. 
      • Participate in and/or lead programmatic, process & quality improvement projects the perfusion stakeholder
      • Supports new programs proposed by NM that may require perfusion services.
      • Provides ongoing initial and continuing education to perfusion, OR and ICU teams
        • Annual competencies/skills verification for Perfusion Staff¿¿¿¿¿¿¿
        • Oversite of the Orientation process and tools
    • Attracts, develops, and retains exceptional care givers and provides those care givers with an environment that fosters excellence through continuous learning.
      • Collaborates with Human Resources and other managers to ensure appropriate staffing.
      • Advances innovative recruitment and retention strategies for team members.
      • Ensure application of staffing tools.
    • Maintains and improves the department or unit’s quality of care and/or service.
      • Promotes innovation and research to advance care patient care models.
      • Encourages, mentors and coaches team members in advancing innovation through research and evidence.
  • Core Skills: Reliability
    • Establishes, implements, and monitors designated capital and operating budget to achieve defined targets.
      • Creates annual operating budget and is accountable for monthly financial performance.
      • Creates and implements capital requests, replacements and departmental projects.
      • Partners with the directors to advance the value portfolio work.
      • In addition, the manager will oversee perfusionist and also may have managerial oversight over other clinical and technical staff.
      • Provides financial oversight of the service area and ensures the accomplishment of productivity goals.
    • Develops and implements innovations in patient and family centered care that fosters quality, safety and effectiveness and serves as a model patient care nationally.
      • Facilitates annual goal development in collaboration with Directors of Patient Care.
      • Enhances the patient’s experience through the continuum of care.
    • Leads the development and implementation of approaches to attain top decile performance on all quality and patient satisfaction metrics.
      • Coaches and develops unit-based quality committees to advance top decile performance.
      • Monitors outcomes, tracks trends, and develops improvement plans for designated area.
      • Supports team by providing and analyzing data as needed.
      • Accountable for structure and processes to improve quality outcomes and the patient experience.
  • Core Skills: Efficiency
    • Manages people and resources to ensure safe and efficient patient care operations.
      • Partners with multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimal patient throughput.
      • Collaborates with the team to ensure application of safe staffing and scheduling guidelines.
      • Embeds innovative strategies to support a healthy practice environment that encourages break time and reduces worker fatigue.
      • Ensures caregivers have the equipment and supplies needed to provide patient care.
    • Provides input for the development of annual performance evaluations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • State of Illinois Licensed Perfusionist
  • CCP Certification
  • Graduate of an accredited perfusion school
  • >5 years as a clinical perfusionist

Preferred:

  • Leadership experience
  • >10 years as clinical perfusionist
