The salary range for this position is $50.18 - $70.25 (Hourly Rate)

Description

The Chief Engineer Plant Operations reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Chief Engineer Plant Operations facilitates delivery of on-boarding, training, quality monitoring, and optimization of service within the Plant Operations Engineering Department at Delnor Hospital. This position works in coordination with the Manager, Plant Operations to construct, implement, and monitor quantitative and qualitative measurement programs that promote safe and continual improvement of the physical plant and increase the quality of customer service. The Chief Engineer Plant Operations works closely with all division managers, coordinators and staff to achieve a program of service excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees daily operations of the Engineering staff within the Plant Operations department, coordinates staff scheduling, and equipment maintenance routines.
  • Identifies, investigates, and assists in the implementation of new tools/technology necessary to maintain and improve productivity, effectiveness, quality, customer service, reduce risk and/or reduce costs.
  • Develops the department budget and is responsible for tracking expenses and maintaining budget.
  • Engages in coaching, feedback and performance improvement strategies as needed.
  • Writes and delivers annual performance reviews for all staff.
  • Identifies overall trends and works with manager and partners with leadership to devise programmatic improvements.
  • Leads and develops employee engagement participation and improvement.
  • Assists in leading and/or developing plans with team, and Manager to ensure patient satisfaction goals are met.
  • Leads training and coaching exercises with employees to continuously improve skill-sets.
  • Facilitates a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to patient satisfaction and interdepartmental problem solving/service delivery.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance (JCAHO, IDPH, etc.) procedures and documentation are in a state of “constant readiness”.
  • Is actively involved with industry specific organizations to stay well-informed of new and changing developments within the field.

Additional Functions

  • Gathers information required for departmental reporting.  Produces reports as required.
  • Monitors daily work order activity to ensure compliance with service expectations.
  • Resolves complex or critical situations involving patients, staff and customers: consults with manager for guidance as needed (e.g., complaints, discipline, etc.).
  • Monitors queue performance and makes adjustment to staffing schedules to meet objectives.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures as needed to support departmental functions.
  • Ensure staff has access to necessary policies, procedures, training and other resources necessary to complete their responsibilities, and that policies and procedures are updated as necessary.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Five years of experience as a Plant Engineer.
  • An additional 2-3 years of experience
  • Background in all phases of high-pressure steam plant operations, emergency power systems, life safety support systems, commercial chilled-water plants, and large-scale air handling equipment.
  • Proper maintenance, operation, safety, and record keeping for all associated systems.
  • Strong knowledge of fire alarm and building automation systems.
  • Associates degree or two years of technical/continuing education coursework. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, financial skills and computer skills required.
  • Stationary Engineer License  
  • Certified Pool Operator or certification achieved within 6 months of hire (if applicable for a facility with a pool on-site)
  • EPA Type Universal CFC License or Certificate

Preferred:

  • Bachelors’ degree in management, electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Three to five years of experience in a lead or supervisory role.
