Description
The Pharmacy Tech reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
- Picks up and delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas.
- Pulls and delivers controlled substances. Appropriately handles controlled substances, including: maintenance, security, reconciling controlled substance dispenses, and accounting for transaction of expired, waste, and returns.
- Ensures compliance with hazardous waste collection and disposal procedures.
- Maintains inventory of automated dispensing cabinets/carousels, the main pharmacy, controlled substance cabinet, EMS (where applicable), and rotates floor stock to reduce outdated medications.
- Receives, unpacks, restocks, and stores pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations (where applicable).
- Pre-/Repackages bulk medications or patient’s own supply into dose packages
- Performs electronic medical record functions (where appropriate) such as dispense prep, barcoding/CNR, medication messages, dispense tracking (barcode) and Rover functions.
- Answers the telephone and screens calls to determine if the call should be handled by a pharmacist or technician.
- Uses the computer system to assist in all dispensing and inquiry functions.
- Replaces returned medication to appropriate locations, rotating inventory, and checking for expired medications.
- Submits medication events when appropriate.
- Performs basic troubleshooting of pharmacy equipment; submits service tickets when appropriate.
- Enters medication orders into pharmacy computer system accurately
- Enters patient charges and credit information into computer
- Compounding sterile and non-sterile medications as needed
- Other duties as assigned
This position is part-time, 40 hours per pay period, evening shift, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. with alternating weekends and holidays.

Required:
- Illinois Pharmacy Technician License (IDFPR)
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Excellent critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- CPhT Certified or PTCB equivalent must be registered or become registered with the State of Illinois as a Pharmacy Technician within 90 days of hire or meets department skill level for technicians prior to 1/1/2008 certification requirement
Preferred:
- Experience in a hospital setting
- 1-2 years’ technician experience
