The salary range for this position is $25.91 - $34.98 (Hourly Rate)

Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description

The Neurodiagnostic Tech I - Neurodiagnostics reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Under general supervision, a neurodiagnostic technician II is responsible for performing neurodiagnostic tests and the related patient care, technical, and clerical duties as required.  Duties may include supervisory responsibilities of neurodiagnostic program team and workflow.  Neurodiagnostic tests include, but are not limited to, electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG). 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs the following in the process of neurodiagnostic testing:

  • Utilizes appropriate patient care protocol relating to neurodiagnostic testing of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Following standard precautions for infection prevention per hospital guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in EEG or EMG and all aspects thereof and able to explain indications to patients.
  • For EEG instructs the patient on test procedures and using the International 10-20 System for EEGs, modifying when necessary, applies the electrodes, performs the test and cleans the patient’s hair.
  • Obtains patient’s history and/or reviews patient’s medical record in order to be alert for symptoms and/or contraindications for testing.
  • Performs neurodiagnostic testing in accordance with the guidelines set forth.
  • Monitors the ongoing recording to detect evidence of dysfunction and documents observations and activities of the patient during the recording(s).
  • Forwards results to the interpreting physician immediately after finishing the procedure.
  • Escalates critical values, issues, or concerns immediately to nursing, ordering physician and/or interpreting physician.
  • Archives results from the reading station for storage at the designated time.

Prioritizes patients following patient-specific, department, and hospital guidelines for study completion.  Demonstrates critical thinking, judgement, and independent problem solving to balance the needs of all stakeholders and communicates these decisions timely and effectively.

 Coordinates care and scheduling with other departments to maximize patient experience, timing, and organizational initiatives.

Distributes reports and maintains a filing system of all neurodiagnostic records and reports.

Uses the computer system to the full extent allowed for the position.  This includes but not limited to all aspects of processing in and out patients and ordering supplies.

Uses the hospital scheduling program to schedule and process outpatient appointments.

Maintains and cleans the neurodiagnostic equipment and all parts connected to it assuring that it is in proper working condition.  Reports if there are any problems with the equipment.

Performs a variety of clerical duties and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies available from general stores, linen room, and ordering system.

Attends all departmental in services, any pertinent hospital-wide in services relating to patient care issues, and the annual safety review program.

Performs other inherent clerical and technical duties related to, but not limited to, the above.

This position is part time, 40 hours per pay period, 10-hour day shift, every weekend, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Training will require weekday availability until off orientation, unless already experienced.  Holidays are on a rotation with 4 other EEG Techs.

Qualifications

An associate degree or higher is preferred. 

Ideal candidates are proficient and independent in EEG or EMG. 

Ideal candidates hold current certification/credentials from the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and/or ABRET.  

Successful completion of a program reviewed by the Committee on Accreditation for Education in Neurodiagnostic technology and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs is preferred. 

On the job training with clinical experience and/or relevant coursework is acceptable with future registration by the American Board of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists preferred. 

Current CPR certification.

Position requires hearing, visual acuity and verbal skills sufficient to perform the neurodiagnostic testing and all other aspects of the position.
