Description
The Pharmacy Tech II reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Under the direction of a registered pharmacist, performs all technical duties associated with the daily operation of the dispensing areas; performs prescription-related, unit dose-related, and sterile product-related functions; performs manufacturing procedures that have been documented in the Department records.
Responsibilities:
- Performs the duties and responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician at advanced level.
- Prepares sterile compounds and IV admixtures for injection and infusion
- Competency to prepare sterile IV admixtures of biologics, hazardous, and chemotherapy medications where applicable.
- May work directly with patients to obtain medication histories
- Fosters a team environment by providing education and training to Pharmacy Tech and Tech II team members.
- Brings performance improvement ideas and/or participates in performance improvement initiatives
- Ensures compliance with hazardous waste collection and disposal procedures
- Meets quality and quantity requirements for new orders, unit doses, and IV mixtures
- Replenishes all hazardous drug supplies and tools
- Confirmation of accurate doses and calculations prior to compounding
- Responsible for automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) controlled substance manager inventory and discrepancy resolutions/investigations
- Advanced knowledge with automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) to troubleshoot such as: ability to move/reassign from one pocket to another (where applicable)
- Working knowledge and utilization of automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) optimization reports (not related to diversion) where appropriate
- Assists in maintaining adequate inventory levels in the dispensing areas
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- CPhT Certified or PTCB equivalent must be registered or become registered with the State of Illinois as a Pharmacy Technician within 90 days of hire or meets department skill level for technicians prior to 1/1/2008 certification requirement
- Illinois Pharmacy Technician License (IDFPR)
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- 1 year technician experience
- Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital or outpatient setting
- Proficient IV compounding experience
- Excellent critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Preferred:
- Hazardous Compounding trained
- Home Infusion Technician: Three (3) years Home Infusion or inpatient hospital experience; Associates Degree in healthcare related field
