The salary range for this position is $ 38.50 - $ 50.05 (Hourly Rate)

Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description

The Respiratory Care Practitioner I- RCP Pending position reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Integrates patient diagnostic data and response to therapy to create a plan-of-care that is consistent with department standards.
  • Is perceived by clinical staff as knowledgeable in basic aspects of respiratory care.
  • Adequately assesses, recommends and implements treatment and therapies in accordance with dept./hospital protocols.
  • Maintains proficiency with blood gas draws if competencied to perform blood gas draws by the dept.
  • Collects specimens, performs basic dept. diagnostic testing per training/competency.
  • Interprets diagnostic and monitoring data appropriately.
  • Maintains knowledge and proficiency of all equipment used within department and appropriate for units assigned to.
  • Can perform all assigned therapies without supervision.
  • Communicates effectively, positively and works cooperatively with other team members.
  • Has respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines.
  • Collaborates well with physicians and RNs.
  • Coordinates patient care by including members of the health care team and other departments to plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care as appropriate.
  • Participates in unit rounds as appropriate.
  • Follows dept. SBAR report process.
  • Actively seeks ways to assist other members of the healthcare team.
  • Is recognized by peers and supervisory staff as collaborative.
  • Identifies, supports, participates in department quality initiatives.
  • Involves, communicates effectively with, and educates patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Utilizes appropriate resources necessary for patient care issues.
  • Meets current standards and policies for documentation.
  • All charting, charges and miscellaneous tasks are documented prior to the completion of each shift.
  • Participates in department huddles, and is aware of information shared in e-mails and monthly news letters.
  • Meets HR Employee Compliance standard by completing and providing necessary documentation required for position.
  • This includes but is not limited to Healthstream completion, TB skin testing, TB mask fit testing, RCP licensure and BLS.
  • Seeks out and obtains clinical learning opportunities.
  • Provides documentation of CEUs required to maintain licensure as needed.
  • Fosters learning experiences of nursing, students, flex/agency staff, and new team members as applicable.
  • Participates in professional growth and development activities and shares knowledge from continuing education programs with co-workers as applicable.
  • Demonstrates computer competence for order entry, results, documentation, policies, etc.
  • Demonstrates competence and compliance in use of Adm Rx and barcoding, Pyxis, tracking board and laboratory.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an American Medical Association/Committee for Accreditation Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Clinical experience from school rotations.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Works well with a team.
  • Critical thinking and assessment skills.
  • CERT BLS.
  • LIC RCP- Must receive license within 3 months of hire date. 

Preferred:

  • 1 plus years of recent acute care hospital experience with some pediatric experience post graduate of a Respiratory Therapy Education accredited program.
  • Associates degree or higher. Experience in emergency rooms, adult ICU, and pediatric or neonatal ICU.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with arterial puncture process and blood gas interpretation.
  • CERT ACLS, CERT NRP, CERT PALS
