Description

The Monitor Tech reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Records and posts rhythm strips for every patient on telemetry or as needed for dysrhythmias; measures heart rate, PR, QRS and QT at intervals, interprets and documents rhythm.
  • Adjusts monitoring parameters to maximize rhythm identification.
  • Labels the patient telemetry monitor when patient is off the unit for a test or procedure; indicates specific treatments related to cardiac monitoring.
  • Prints and interprets rhythm strips, and places in the patient chart.
  • Responds to alarms promptly; informs the registered nurse of any significant changes noted in the patient's cardiac rhythm or pulse oximetry reading.
  • Records all admissions, discharges and transfers of patients from central station.
  • Initiates and discontinues patients for telemetry monitoring per order.
  • Informs the PCT or RN of monitoring disturbances such as lead disconnect, artifact, electrical interference, etc.
  • Notifies biomedical department of any transmission problems or needed repairs identified on the cardiac monitoring system.
  • Enters daily charges for telemetry and SPO2.
  • Serves as a resource to staff and students regarding interpretation of dysrhythmias and function of monitoring equipment.
  • Cleans monitors upon discontinuation of patient from the unit.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One to two years of related work experience
