Description
The Intraoperative Care Tech reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
A clinically competent Intraoperative Care Tech utilizes initiative, strives to maintain steady level of productivity, assists in maintenance of a safe, and clean environment. Participates in the department’s continuous quality improvement and activities.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates I-CARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence) in daily work and interactions.
- Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.
- Provides accurate information and timely updates to assigned Operating Room staff, Charge RN, Clinical Operations Coordinator, and/or Manager.
- Works together with the Surgical Team in assigned rooms to clarify routine daily operational tasks.
- Service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns when they occur.
- Demonstrates teamwork by helping co-workers within and across departments. Communicates effectively with others, respects diverse opinions and styles, acknowledges the assistance and contributions of others.
- Uses organizational and unit/department resources efficiently.
- Manages work schedule efficiently, completing tasks and assignments on time.

- Collaborates with the Surgical Team to assist in addressing patient safety issues/concerns.
- Demonstrates use of key words and behaviors, AIDET to achieve excellent patient satisfaction.
- Demonstrates support and awareness of daily schedule by expediting on time starts and efficient progression of patients through perioperative services.
- Documents daily activity tasks using appropriate departmental documentation forms and/ or information systems.
- Performs required skills/tasks in a timely efficient manor per protocol, such as: aseptic technique, assist RN with postmortem care.
- Application of teds/pneumatic teds, restocking of unit.
- Assists with lifting, transferring, holding and positioning of patients in the Operating Room.
- Assist with transporting patients from other departments to the Operating Room.
- Assist with toileting as needed.
- Able to maintain a neat and orderly appearance of the unit.
- OR room set up by bringing appropriate equipment and/or supplies before/between/after surgical procedures.
- OR turnover between/after procedures.
- Turnover of anesthesia machine.
- Checking case carts for completeness.
- Pulling/putting away instrumentation/equipment, and supplies.
- Opens sterile supplies.
- Drapes robot using aseptic technique.
- Coordinates delivery of post op beds to the OR.
- Transports specimens.
- Restocks supplies in OR daily and when needed.
- Puts away no longer needed equipment and/or supplies in their home location.
- Identifies equipment positioning devices based on surgical services.
- Keeps Core clean and organized.
- Moves case carts to designated location prior and following surgical procedures.
- Maintains stock of warm blankets, saline/water bottles and/or IV irrigation fluids in the warmer.
- Operates Hana Orthopedic Surgery table.
- Maintains Education Record and participates in annual competencies.
- Identifies own strengths and weaknesses, learning needs and goals.
- Develops a plan to address annual learning needs and goals.
- Demonstrates participation in continuing education activities.
- Orients new staff to the POCT role.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school graduate or equivalent. Proficient in English, verbal and written communication skills. BLS through American Heart Association
Preferred:
- Previous experience in Perioperative, GI, or Surgery Department
