The salary range for this position is $27.27 - $38.18 (Hourly Rate)

Description

**This is a Full Time position at 40 hours per week located at the Grayslake clinic. Schedule is Monday through Friday.**

The Resource Coordinator Ophthalmology reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Resource Coordinator, Ophthalmology serves as a direct resource for the Ophthalmic Assistants, Certified Ophthalmic Technicians and other clinical staff, while also functioning as a member of the team. This position will work closely with the Operations Coordinator(s) in Ophthalmology to provide general coordination for clinical and patient care functions of the clinic, and ensuring sufficient coverage. This individual will serve as a leader in the department, assisting with development and implementation of quality assurance programs, performance improvement initiatives and training and coaching of clinic staff.  

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with coordinating the daily activities of the clinic and troubleshooting daily issues.  
  • Assist with the scheduling of daily and monthly work for department to ensure adequate staffing levels to complete required tasks.
  • Analyze and prioritize work. Anticipates staffing needs for subsequent clinic days and makes necessary arrangements for coverage within the department.  
  • Provide advice and assistance in handling special situations or problems.
  • Monitor department operations and take appropriate action as necessary to ensure efficient and effective completion of all tasks and projects.  
  • Support operational changes to meet service needs, goals and objectives.  
  • Assess and communicate staff development needs to management.  
  • Works closely with Operations Coordinator and Practice Manager to provide feedback and assessment of the team.

  • Provides direct patient care in the Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant role. 
  • Demonstrates clinical competence relevant to the Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant scope of practice.  
  • Work with Operations Coordinator to ensure comprehensive and timely physician exam and work-ups, documentation requirements per physician and documentation guideline requirements and special testing.  
  • Help to ensure the timely and professional delivery of ancillary testing, visual fields, biometrics, glasses check, etc.  
  • Help to ensure timely and professional messaging of pre/post-operative communication and instruction; help to ensure telephone triage is performed for all patients.  
  • Assist with job orientation and training for new clinic staff.  
  • Assure that all supply and equipment needs of the clinic/physicians are met on a daily basis.  
  • Provide mentoring/coaching to clinic staff/technicians.  
  • Schedule patient appointments.  
  • Participate in formal/informal operations management meetings/discussions.  
  • Interact with the Call Center personnel with respect to daily triage assignments and protocol.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in Ophthalmology in a clinical capacity.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification (COA)
  • CPR-BLS through American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Familiar with ophthalmic medical terminology across sub-specialty disciplines
  • Knowledge of operational differences in clinical care provided in various sub-specialties in a physician office setting.  

Preferred

  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
  • 3-5 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician.
