The salary range for this position is $29.23 - $42.38 (Hourly Rate)

Description

The Facilities Automation Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Under general supervision of the Facilities Operations Manager, responsible for supporting the effective use and functionality of the automated equipment and materials handling equipment within Northwestern Medicine Procurement Operations Center.  This role has the responsibility to diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues, along with testing, replacement or repair electrical systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day to day preventative maintenance and repair of material handling equipment (fork lifts, reach trucks, scissor lifts) and automated dispensing equipment (Knapp OSR, BD Parata).  
  • Responds to service requests and performs problem assessment, troubleshooting, correction, and documentation. 
  • Performs scheduled maintenance and inspections in accordance with organizational and regulatory protocols, policies and standards. 
  • Operates facility equipment and systems on a routine, and as needed, basis in a safe and efficient manner.
  • May assist contractors/vendors with repairs, maintenance and construction.
  • Will also be responsible to assist the facility maintenance technician as needed.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all electrical and mechanical aspects of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) including conveyor systems, sortation, robotics, or Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS)
  • Adjust RF ID scanners, barcode label printers and scales.
  • Troubleshoot repair, contact support services, and follow guidance on required repairs, or replacing components (belts, chains, cables) and wearing components (guides, bearings, wheels, rollers, pulleys)
  • Clean, lubricate, and calibrate equipment per automation maintenance protocols.
  • Develop appropriate procedures for staff to manage issues and emergencies related to automation.
  • Other duties as assigned by Facilities Operations Manager
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all electrical and mechanical aspects of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) on site, conveyor systems, sortation, robotics, or Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS)
  • Adjust RF ID scanners, barcode label printers, scales, cameras
  • Reset, repair, or replace adjustable components (belts, chains, cables) and wearing components (guides, bearings, wheels, rollers, pulleys) – For our automation, this person will always be working to troubleshoot and not actively repair.  The expectation is to contact the support services for our automation and follow their guidance
  • Clean, lubricate, and calibrate equipment per automation maintenance protocols 
  • Develop appropriate procedures for staff to manage issues and emergencies related to automation

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years of relevant building maintenance and repair experience required
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and plant operations tasks, skills and equipment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Physical Demand Requirement:

  • Physical demands required for this role include lift/carry up to 70 pounds and a push/pull force up to 50 pounds

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Construction or related field.
  • Strong electrical background 
  • MHE Certification
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification
