Description

The schedule for this position is three (3) 12-hour shifts per week 7a - 7:30p with every third weekend required.

The Vascular Access Nurse Inpatient reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Vascular Access Nurse provides and coordinates peripheral and central vascular access device insertion as well as device planning, assessment, evaluation, maintenance, intervention and evaluation.

Responsibilities:

  • The Vascular Access Nurse is accountable to demonstrate and continue to develop proficiency, both knowledge and skill, specific to all types of vascular access and infusions.  
  • The Vascular Access Nurse employs the nursing process in a holistic, patient-centered approach to safely deliver infusion therapy and perform vascular access insertion and management.  
  • Collects and analyzes data, identifies expected outcomes, develops and implements an individualized plan, coordinates care delivery and evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.  
  • Vascular Access Nurse performs independent nursing interventions related to infusion therapy and vascular access using appropriate clinical reasoning, nursing judgement, and critical decision-making skills.  
  • Promotes early collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and patient to ensure the patient receives the right device, in the right location at the right time while promoting vessel health and preservation. 
  • Participates in shared governance, committee work, and projects. 
  •  Evaluates and documents the patient’s responses to nursing interventions in the health record and properly individualizes the plan of care based on the evaluation of findings.  
  • Utilizes the best available evidence, including research findings to guide practice decisions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse
  • Basic Life Support
  • Strong interpersonal skills, Ability to collaborate with others, Strong analytic abilities

Preferred:

  • VA-BC preferred (must obtain within 2 years of start date)
