The salary range for this position is $38.35 - $47.94 (Hourly Rate)

Description

The  MRI Tech Lead  reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

  • The Lead Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)  Technologist is responsible for the technical quality and daily operation of the MRI department, including maintaining appropriate staffing levels and schedules, established levels of supplies and patient appointment scheduling. Heighten attentiveness about patient safety from ferrous metal for both patients and employees. Operates the imaging equipment and supports the radiologists in the imaging of patients. Completed the daily charges for the MR department.

Hours: 40 hour per week, primarily on day shift with occupational mid-shift or PM's

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies and administration of contrast media with appropriate application of technical and positioning protocols, radio frequency safety procedures and proper image identifying criteria according to department policy and procedure. Assists radiologist with specialized radiography/MRI procedures as requested.
  • Evaluates MRI images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Verifies physician orders for instructions from requesting physician and consults with the radiologists as necessary.
  • Preps patient for exam. Explains procedure and provides education and instruction to patient as appropriate.
  • Selects, operates, and maintains MRI and associated equipment. Performs equipment warm up, calibration and safety check as needed. Operates hospital computer system. Reports to supervisor any equipment malfunctions. Operates equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines for appropriate quality control.
  • Responsible for departmental records. Accurately and promptly documents in departmental records (film, file and computer) patient name, exam date, film/image markers, clinical history, complaints, allergies, etc. Collects statistics as directed.
  • Communicates reactions, complications, changes in condition etc. to radiologist, physician, supervisor, peers and nursing unit as necessary.
  • Coordinates routine work activities of personnel in the MRI area to ensure that all patients testing are performed in a proper and efficient manner and in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains staffing schedules to ensure operational coverage of the MRI section including on-call services.
  • Assists in interviewing, selecting, orienting and training assigned personnel. Motivates staff and recommend appropriate personnel actions to assist Manager or Director in making decisions related to personnel matters. Provides input to Manager for performance appraisals of MRI section staff.
  • Acts as department trainer to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements. Ensures proper training of staff in the utilization of the Radiology Information System. Performs staff/student education and orientation duties as needed.
  • Procures, stores, and distributes supplies.
  • Operates picture archiving and communication system (PACS), for MR image retention, and MRI power injectors according to departmental protocol and guidelines. Ensures that the MRI power injectors are properly serviced with regular preventative maintenance.
  • Participates in the evaluation and application of new MRI procedures, protocols, and techniques.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of department policies and procedures and recommends appropriate revisions. Communicates policy/procedure changes to staff.
  • Performs quality control procedures to ensure optimum quality from MRI scanners. Participates in quality improvement monitors and develops and implements cost savings measures to ensure optimal departmental performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • American Registered Radiologic Technology (ARRT)
  • Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety Certified (IDNS)
  • Magnetic Resonance Registered (MR) – Board Certified
  • CPR Certification
  • 3-5 years hospital MR experience
  • Physical Demands Requirement:
    • Physical demands required for this role include lift/carry up to 50 pounds and a push/pull force up to 50 pounds
