Description
The Director of Support Services reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Director of Support Services has primary responsibility for the development, implementation and direction of all internal/external patient movement and delivery of environmental services throughout the NMH campus. Additional responsibilities include development, expansion and oversight of key Support Services initiatives including multi-disciplinary rounds for the continuous monitoring of the campus physical environment. Formulates policies, protocol and procedures, establishes and manages budgets and participates in strategic decision-making. Directs, coordinates and oversees the administration of all related management and support staff.
Responsibilities:
- Directs and evaluates all Patient Transport Services throughout NMH campus.
- Directs and evaluates the physical condition of facility and the relocation and storage of all furnishings and equipment, as well as the relocation of space to improve the sanitation and appearance of the facility. Oversees the reporting of unsafe conditions and research toward improve housekeeping.
- Designs, establishes and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives; recruits, employs, trains, supervises and evaluates all associate management and staff related to specific areas of responsibility.
- Directs the management of major project work, ensuring that adequate staff and supplies are available to perform tasks
- Develops and maintains Support Service multi-disciplinary round protocols and standards, ensuring that all regulatory policies and guidelines for patient care are met; establishes and coordinates relevant action plans, communication, and quality improvement.
- Directs the management of the inventory of housekeeping supplies. Keeps costs in line with approved budgetary amounts.
- Establishes and implements short and long range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.
- Maintains good labor relations through the participation in the NMH collective bargaining process.
- Oversees the overall operations of units reporting to this position.
- Develops and manages annual budgets for all areas of responsibilities and performs regular cost and productivity analysis.
- Continually evaluates all available technologies for each related service to ensure continued performance enhancement while maximizing overall productivity.
- Provides developmental opportunities for direct reports.
- Serve as operational liaison with NMH administrative and professional personnel regarding policies, procedures, personnel administration and budgetary preparation, labor relations and control.
- Directs operations relative to HCAHPS cleanliness related metrics and key initiatives implemented to drive patient satisfaction concerning the cleanliness of the facility and the courtesy of the housekeeper
- Maintain interface with functional personnel to coordinate operational activities to ensure adequate staffing, space and facilities. Coordination of purchasing, maintenance and renovation activities for all areas of responsibility.
- Administer a program of property management and accountability.
- Determine and recommend necessary space, equipment, supplies, and support systems to ensure effective functioning of all related business units.
- Ensures a safe environment of care for all staff, patients, and families.
- In collaboration with NMH Senior Management and Directors, develops new processes and strategies for the consistent delivery of the best possible service to all internal customers.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 10 years of successful Environmental Services management experience.
- Must have organizational skills and be able to work in fast paced, multi task environment.
- Experience in successful job training with Environmental Service staff, and focus on continual quality improvement.
- Past experience in hospital or institutional settings.
- Must demonstrate thorough knowledge of patient care area and room cleaning, as well as surgical suite cleaning.
- Must possess knowledge of hazardous waste procedures and regulations, Standard Precautions, and JCAHO standards on Infection Control and Environment of Care.
- Must be able to work independently, and meet established deadlines.
- Requires effective interpersonal and teaching/coaching skills, problem solving skills, and basic reading, writing, math and computer skills.
