Description
The Senior Radiation Therapist – AMC reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Senior Radiation Therapist – AMC, under the direction of the Therapy Manager, participates in the planning, leading, and organizing of activities related to the delivery of radiation therapy and patient care. This position is responsible for assisting with the recruitment, orientation, and instruction of staff. This role will promote a positive first impression with patients, establish a role as patient advocate, and facilitate the delivery of quality patient care and service. The Senior Radiation Therapist - AMC assures the quality of patient satisfaction during treatments, simulations, and patient education. The position actively leads & participates in quality control related activities and records maintenance, supply inventory and ordering, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
- Covers all responsibilities of Academic Radiation Therapist in addition to tasks listed below.
- Acts as a primary resource providing competent clinical and professional leadership.
- Functions as a role model for all department staff in promoting NM Patient’s First Mission.
- Act as a clinical instructor role model supporting the NM Radiation Therapy School mission.
- Upholds expectations of cultural safety though actively addressing staff or notifying Manager in situations that deviate from organizational standards.
- Serves as a liaison between therapists and all other staff.
- Provides training, guidance and mentoring to the therapy staff, focusing on individuals new to NM or with limited experience.
- Recognizes and enables strengths in others while assisting in helping to improve their shortcomings.
- Assumes a lead role within daily operations of the department, assisting in ensuring that all patients are treated in a safe and timely manner.
- Ensures all AMC therapists adhere to department policies and procedures.
- Sets and executes personal development objectives to complement current position.
- Makes improvements beyond current standards and explores untested approaches and frontiers.
- Leads self-identified initiatives to support staff and patient experience improvement.
- Leads discussion and provides relevant updates during monthly radiation therapy meetings.
- Coordinates continuing education coverage and opportunities for radiation therapists.
- Coordinates resolving critical situations involving patients, staff, and visitors in consultation with the Managers as needed.
- Participates in formal and informal process improvement and problem solving.
- Recommends corrective actions, collects and tracks data to measure and support quality improvement.
- Coordinates staff and patient schedules, optimizing resources and staff coverage in response to ever-changing clinical demands.
- Represents department vision and NM mission as point person with vendors and department visitors.
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager.
Qualifications
Required:
- Illinois Emergency Management Administration (IEMA) license.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) certification or eligibility.
- If hired without ARRT, must obtain within 3 months of starting.
- Graduated from JRCERT/AMA approved course in Radiation Therapy Technology, resulting in certification or eligibility for ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy Technology.
- Bachelor’s degree in Radiological Science/ Radiation Therapy or its equivalence in education, training, and experience.
- CPR Basic Life Saver certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
- Possesses an in-depth knowledge of current practices in Radiation Oncology.
Preferred:
- Three years employment experience in NM Central Radiation Oncology
- One year of leadership experience in Radiation Oncology
- Bachelor’s Degree in Radiation Therapy or related field.
- Extensive computer knowledge
