The salary range for this position is $99.59 - $149.39 (Hourly Rate)

Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

The Senior Quantitative Research Software Engineer is responsible for developing technology that is impactful and focuses on solving real-world problems that will work seamless with the end user. Responsibilities:

• Develop, design, test, and architect software and data solutions in a team-based environment.
• Leveraging machine learning and other advanced technologies to transform clinician and patient experiences in a fast-paced, research environment
• Learning and incorporating the latest software and ML/AI technologies to deliver cutting-edge solutions within Northwestern Medicine
• Work closely with the end user to support and improve workflows iteratively.
• Stay current on development tools, programming techniques and computing paradigms; participate in educational opportunities; read professional publications.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related technical field
  • 7+ years experience working directly in software development
  • Experience and proficiency with:
    • Low-level language: C/C++ and/or Rust and/or Assembly
    • Multimodal data manipulation, such as 3D volumetric data, 2D raster & vector, LUT, waveforms, etc.
    • Design, development and optimization of interconnected, distributed, or parallel software performance measurement of I/O and compute bottlenecks, etc.
    • git/GitHub or equivalent open-source alternative
    • Advanced containerization technology such as Docker, Podman, containerd, k8s, etc.
    • Testing methodologies, including experience writing unit and integration tests
    • Experience with SQL or non-relational database technology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in presenting technical materials to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience leading software and/or firmware development projects and teams from conception to completion
  • Experience in mentoring/coaching junior team members
  • Comfort meeting with range of technical and clinical staff

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related technical field
  • 10+ years experience working directly in software development
  • Experience working in development with ML/AI healthcare organizations AI-specific workflows
    • Gradient monitoring technologies such as wandb.ai, mlflow, AIM, etc.
    • Ability to robustly document solutions such as flow diagrams, GANTT charts, etc.
    • Python frameworks such as: PySpark, Pandas, NumPy, TensorFlow, PyTorch
  • Healthcare
    • Quality management software (QMS) experience
    • Health care data experience (PHI/HIPAA, HL7 FHIR)
    • Familiarity with FDA regulation or international equivalent
    • Applied clinical experience
