Description
The Program Manager reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The Program Manager, Nursing leads complex planning and implementation of projects and ongoing programs that support the achievement of Northwestern Medicine and the division’s strategic goals.
Responsibilities:
- Apply knowledge of project management (including change management) and leadership principles and tools to develop multi-disciplinary work plans, understand and manage stakeholders, coordinate internal and external resources necessary to execute on plans, develop and implement communication plans, and establish leadership and stakeholder forums to communicate regularly about progress, risks and escalating decisions. This includes providing options and recommendations for mitigation strategies and necessary decisions.
- Develop and maintain collaborative, productive relationships with clients and team members, proactively linking individuals from multiple disciplines and business units to achieve desired outcomes in the appropriate forums (e.g., work groups, 1:1 meetings, small group meetings, etc.). Create a culture of psychological safety among team members from all disciplines, departments and business units. Support medical directors, operations leadership and staff as appropriate.
- Make recommendations for and execute on agreed upon process improvement projects that improve efficiency and mitigate departmental or institutional risk using quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis, root cause analysis and/or DMAIC methodology.
- Summarize information verbally and in writing (e.g., email, PowerPoint, etc.) in different ways for different audiences with the goal of advancing the project with every conversation and meeting. For all audiences, present data clearly, concisely and with proposed interpretation (what is the data telling us?).
- Serve as an informal leader in the department/division, a willing resource for team members and a supportive partner to the clinical staff.

- Working knowledge in the principles and tools of project management, including change management.

- Ability to effectively apply the principles of change management while leading.
- Strong computing skills, including Microsoft Office applications and Outlook and the EMR.

- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, management, staff and other customers, internal and external to NM.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality for patients and their families, as outlined in the Northwestern Memorial HealthCare Patient Confidentiality policy.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare management or related field
- Three years in a healthcare provider environment or MBA or MHA; experience managing complex projects
- Basic life support (BLS) certification
- Current clinical license in the state in which the hospital resides, if applicable
- Specialty certification preferred
Preferred:
- MBA or MHA
- Financial Performance experience
- Strata experience preferred
