Vision for the Human Longevity Clinic

Our focus at the Human Longevity Laboratory is on concrete measurements of biological age and interventions to lower biological age. While the goal of the clinic is not to screen for specific diseases or treat chronic comorbidities, we know that many interventions believed to slow the aging process often have the dual advantage of protecting against chronic diseases.

Our Approach to Measuring Biological Age

At Northwestern Medicine, all measures that we employ are reproducible, evidence-based, and rigorously tested. There are certain molecular hallmarks of aging or changes that occur at the molecular and cellular level as a result of wear and tear over time. These changes contribute to progressive dysfunction at the tissue, organ, and whole-body level.

To best address these hallmarks of aging, our comprehensive protocol encompasses assessments across various systems (cardiovascular, respiratory, neurocognitive, metabolic, musculoskeletal), alongside cutting-edge molecular profiling of the epigenome, proteome, and transcriptome.

Northwestern Medicine is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in hiring or employment on the basis of age, sex, race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation or any other protected status.
