Description
The Paralegal Legal Services Associatereflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance, both with and without the supervision of attorneys and other senior management, in the provision of legal analysis and advice and counsel to all corporations in the Northwestern Memorial system.
- Coordinate, implement, interact with and support system-wide project management, including special projects requiring legal and process expertise.
- Provide litigation support through coordination of a wide range of discovery matters and preparation and coordination of subpoena responses, among other things.
- Legal research – independently conduct legal, regulatory and other health care related research, and report as required to attorneys and senior management on a wide variety of issues.
- Attorney and management assistance – Provide ongoing legal assistance, support and project management to attorneys and others on matters covering a wide range of health care, litigation and general corporate legal issues, including medico legal document collection and review, document preparation, real estate and other tax exemption transactions, intellectual property, due diligence, especially as related to corporate debt financing projects, transactional matters, and charitable support organizations.
- Prepare and file required corporate reports and regulatory filing to maintain organization’s corporate and other compliance requirements. File reports for change of officers. Coordinate with Corporate Governance and Corporate Compliance to file annually or as otherwise needed the Medicare 855A form for board members.
- Maintain the corporate records and file records of all deeds, closing books, and all official records pertaining to real estate deals.
- Special designated projects – manage and handle projects assigned by attorneys and/or senior management.
- Regulatory updates – track, review and report to attorneys and others as appropriate on legal and regulatory updates impacting health care and NM operations.

- Such other duties as may be assigned by the NMHC Deputy General Counsel from time to time
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree and paralegal certificate
- Paralegal certification or 10 years of paralegal experience
- At least 5, but preferably 10+ years of paralegal experience
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, be flexible and manage multiple priorities while providing support to 6 attorneys
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Must have integrity, good judgment and sensitivity to the confidential nature of matters handled.
- Previous experience in coordinating and supporting due diligence.
Preferred:
- Litigation, corporate, and healthcare experience
- Experience with bond issuance and bond refinancing
