Description
Schedule: This position is a full-time (40 hours per week, 1.0 FTE), rotating role that requires weekend and holiday work. The orientation schedule is 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Following a three-month orientation, the permanent schedule will be Monday through Friday, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM. The role will also support the Ambulatory Surgery Center based on departmental needs. On-call requirements of +110 hours per schedule are as follows: Call coverage will be from 7 pm to 7 am on weekdays/24 hours on weekends (1-hour response time from when called to be onsite).

Performs radiologic procedures under the medical direction of an attending radiologist to generate information necessary for the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of inpatients and/or outpatients. Services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures.
In addition to performing all of the duties of a Staff Radiographer, a OR Radiographer performs all OR/Surgical related radiographic and fluoroscopic imaging procedures, operates all surgery equipment including but not limited to portables, C-Arms and Vascular rooms, performs and supports Lithotripsy surgical procedures as needed, and takes on specified additional responsibilities as assigned by the Manager and Resource Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluates the request for radiographic service and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application.
- Perform imaging procedures in accordance with the principles of safe practice and ethical conduct.
- Documents imaging procedures manually and /or electronically to ensure correct charging, and patient and film file tracking.
- Appropriately employs imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate and store appropriate images.
- Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of nursing care, age-specific sensitivities, and “patients' first” guidelines. Participate in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices.
- Provides patient education in the form of written material and/or verbal explanation prior to, during, and subsequent to the procedure. Critiques existing tools and adapts based upon specific population learning needs.
- Reviews and evaluates own and peer resultant images for comparison with section and industry standards.
- Assists the Senior Technologist and Resource Coordinator in problem solving for daily operational issues.
- Assists with flexing schedule of personnel as necessary, with respect to exam complexity and patient volume.
- Monitor's stock of supplies in imaging rooms to assure their regular availability by timely reordering, rotation of dated items, and by maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.
- Report incidences of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance, and equipment in disrepair to supervisory and/or quality control personnel as soon a possible
- Acts as a role model in promotion of NMH “Patients First” Mission and Best People initiative.
- Carries out Safety and Regulatory requirements necessary at NMH.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALITY MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITES
- Provides imaging services of optimum quality with maximum productivity and customer service and assists staff to do the same.
- Maintains daily schedule in a manner that maximizes patient satisfaction and smooth patient flow through the department. Communicates with the patients in a timely manner regarding any delay or wait time.
- Collects and analyzes data to support the measurement and tracking components of quality management.
- Participates in formal and informal process improvement and problem solving to enhance the quality of service to customers.
- Proactively identifies quality issues to be addressed and brings to the attention of the Manager, Resource Coordinator and Quality Committee as appropriate.
- Ensures the continuity of care through effective interactions with other departments (i.e.: surgery, emergency department, registration, patient escort, nursing services.
- Utilizes resources as required within the Institution and the Department of Radiology to provide education, technical or informational services as needed to self, staff, or patients.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff throughout the department.
- Promotes a positive work environment.
- Maintains competencies and complies with continuing education requirements of credentialing agencies.
Qualifications
Required:
- State of Illinois, Department of Nuclear Safety license (IDNS).
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- CPR Certification (BLS)
- Graduate of an accredited school/college of Radiologic Technology
Preferred:
- Baccalaureate degree
