Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description
The Director of Employee Compensation reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The Director of Compensation contributes to Northwestern Medicines success by driving the design, planning, and implementation of effective compensation programs.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the compensation program offered supports the organization's strategic objectives and market competitiveness
- Responsible for broad based employee compensation programs ensuring alignment with and support of our patients first focus
- Assess operational effectiveness and recommend changes or process improvements where necessary
- Establishes the strategic direction for compensation policy development and programs covering salary plans and structures, organizational incentive and pay practices
- Monitors and evaluates benchmark data, trend information and economic projections related to similar jobs in comparable industries and recommends changes as appropriate to establish and maintain a competitive external market position and internal equitability
- Provides leadership to broad based Compensation team on matters such as job evaluations, job offers, promotion increases, total compensation assessments, market studies, process improvements and simplifications, special projects, integrations and reorganizations
- Leads annual salary adjustment, incentive, and market review processes, including related compensation analytics and report generation for senior leadership
- Partners on shared initiatives in order to accomplish larger organizational goals; educates and consults with senior leaders, HR partners, function and operations leadership, etc. to ensure understanding of and ability to communicate the value of Total Compensation programs to staff throughout the organization
- Collaborates with Finance and HR partners on compensation-related activities, analysis and budget planning
- Maintains a working knowledge of government regulations influencing compensation program trends and practices among similar organizations to ensure programs and practices are compliant and current; and presents information, findings, and recommendations to executives and senior leaders
- Leads the broad-based compensation team and activities related to hiring, training, rewarding and retaining these team members, with emphasis on ensuring adherence to NM Values, holding team members accountable for delivering results, keeping team members engaged and motivated, supporting their career growth
- Reports to Vice President of Human Resources and supports other HR Executives on compensation-related matters, strategic projects, etc.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field
- 10+ years of leadership experience, preferrably within the HR or Compensation function
- Proven leadership skills, with focus on coaching, developing the team
- High level of business and financial acumen, with the ability to think strategically
Preferred:
- Advanced degree preferred - Master's degree
- Healthcare experience a plus
