Description

  • Hours: 24 hours per week
  • Shift: 1:30 PM - 9:00 PM or 2:30 PM - 9:00 PM (Works Rotating Weekends and Holidays)
  • Location: Prentice; FL BS
  • Union Hourly Compensation (non-negotiable): $19.25 per hour (+ $0.97/hour for shift pay differential). The role is graded as a non-exempt position meaning you are eligible for overtime.

The Diet Clerk is responsible for communication between the Patient Care Units and Food & Nutrition regarding patient menus, diet changes and general patient services. This role must react accurately and effectively with all dietary changes to ensure efficient timing of service.  The Diet Clerk communicates with dietitians, diet techs, department management, hospitality assistants and tray line staff. This indivudal must be familiar with Diet Manual and must be computer literate and be able to work on computer 90% of time scheduled. This position checks the tray line accurately and in a timely manner. The Diet Clerk ensures physicians’ orders are entered properly and promptly in Computrition when necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow HIPAA and Patient Confidentiality guidelines.
  • Screens all incoming calls to Diet Office to ensure accurate and timely departmental communication.
  • Answers phone within three (3) rings in a courteous manner identifying self and department at all times.
  • Assists callers in any way possible routing call to appropriate personnel within department.
  • Maintains current up-to-date information on each patient in accurate manner via Computrition/Powerchart.
  • Must understand how to calculate tube feeding usage (ml/hr to quantity per day)
  • Prints nourishment lists for supplemental feedings for individual patients.
  • Prints tube feed lists for daily tube feeding delivery to units.
  • Prints menus.  Edits selective menus as needed before sending to the patient and after received back in the diet office.  (Of importance: DPC, dysphagia, multiple therapeutic restrictions).
  • Demonstrates understanding of modified diets by accurately editing and selecting patient menu.
  • Assembles menus for tray assembly line accurately and timely.
  • Generates and distributes smoothie list.
  • Monitors supplies on a regular basis to ensure adequate inventory of menus, cards, paper etc.
  • Performs other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Assists in orientation of new staff/students in the Diet Office by demonstrating basic duties of the job.
  • Records patient daily meal count by each meal.
  • Manually enters into Computrition future orders as needed at appropriate time.
  • Enters requests into Sentact System in a manner that ensures food item delivery within required timeline (usually 1 hour).

Qualifications

Required:

  • Chicago Sanitation Certification, comprehension and ability to follow JCAHO Regulations for food handling, sanitation and food preparation.

Preferred:

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Food Service experience (1-2 yrs.) with health care background
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Computer literate with dietary background (1-2 years)
