Description
The Health Psychologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
- The Health Psychologist provides psychological evaluations and treatment for management of the psychosocial aspects of chronic and acute medical conditions, through the understanding of the interrelationships between behavioral, emotional, cognitive, social, and biological components of health and illness.
- Works for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of illness and disability including application of scientific knowledge to address maladaptive health habits and health risk issues.
- Facilitates high quality services to individuals, families, and health care delivery systems (e.g., through public health programs).
- Provides clinical input for program development and evaluation.
- Provides care in a fashion that assures, embraces, and communicates the pledge, values of Northwestern Medicine.
Responsibilities:
- Teach healthy, new behaviors, particularly regarding weight management and eating patterns. Components of this cognitive behavior include education, training in coping skills, training in motivation techniques, training in health related behaviors such as smoking cessation, and group support
- Provides evaluation and clinical psychological services to the Bariatric Health program.
- Manages patients referred through both inpatient and outpatient venues.
- Conducts psychological testing where clinically indicated, interprets tests and data in order to develop treatment plan for patients and families.
- Provides individual, family, group psychotherapy to identify, refine and assist in application of preventative and reactive coping strategies to disease
- Works with physicians, nurses and social workers in facilitating support groups and patient education sessions for proactive approaches to disease prevention as well as coping to present disease
- Works with community resources to promote public health goals aligned with Northwestern Medicine

- Participates in the identification, development, and implementation of innovative quality improvement initiatives to address patient care challenges while maintaining a balance of cost effectiveness and quality of care.
- Performs all other related activities as reasonably requested by NM-RMG.
Qualifications
Required:
- PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology from an APA, CPA or BPS or equivalent.
- Clinical Psychologist Licensure, Illinois or eligible
- Specialized training in health psychology as evidenced by APA fellowship that included bariatrics, or equivalent.
- Experience with being a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Preferred:
- Experience with programs involving weight management, smoking cessation, grief counseling, stress reduction, and reducing risky behaviors.
