Description

The Carpenter position reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. Construct, repair and maintains wooden structures such as furniture, equipment, partitions and other parts of the hospital buildings, using hand tools and power tools according to written and oral instructions. Description - Calculates quantity of materials needed and requisitions lumber, hardware and other supplies. - Selects stock, tools and supplies such as nails, screws and glue to repair wooden structures. - Removes and replaces broken or busted hardware. - Repairs partitions, doors, windows and floors, furniture and building framework, using power tools such as planers, sanders, saws and drills or hand tools such as planes, chisels, rasps and saws. - Reads blueprints or specifications to determine procedure of constructing cabinets, furniture, partitions and other wooden articles. - Measures and marks in prescribed dimensions on wooden stock using rules, tape measures, calipers, compass and marking pencil to guide cutting operations. - Builds a variety of wood constructed items (e.g. counter tops, cabinets, shelving, moldings, partitions, etc.) for the Health System and/or modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs. - Produce or assemble components of articles, such as facility fixtures, office equipment, cabinets, or high-grade furniture - Installs a variety of wood built items (e.g. partitions, tables, cabinets, counters, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition. - Performs in-house remodeling projects involving metal stud construction, drywall installation, suspended ceilings, flooring applications, and demolition of existing structures when needed. -Maintains tools, equipment, and/or minor vehicle maintenance for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in safe operating condition. - Transports a variety of items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, materials, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site. - Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items to complete the necessary installation/repair. - Completes and logs time in computerized work order system - Removes snow in the winter months - Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. - Travels between and services Northwestern Medicine sites - Ability to perform the physical responsibilities of the job. - Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required: - High School Diploma or GED equivalent. - 5 Years of position related experience - Valid drivers license - Working knowledge of Microsoft computer applications used for data, work records and email. (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) - Ability to read and comprehend complicated blueprints, drawings, schematics, specifications, codes and handbooks. - Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and prioritize works as required. - Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to function as a team member in a demanding service environment. - Ability to communicate with customers at all levels of the organization in a professional, effective manner. Preferred: - Carpentry experience in health care setting
