Description

Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to work in our tertiary care, outpatient allergy-immunology clinic associated with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Patients have a variety of allergic or immunologic disorders such as asthma, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, drug allergy, eosinophilic esophagitis, food allergy, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, specific antibody deficiency, common variable immunodeficiency, chronic rhinosinusitis, vocal cord dysfunction and eosinophilic pneumonia.

The APP will evaluate complex allergy-immunology outpatients, many of whom have other co-morbidities: taking histories; performing physical examinations; reviewing and/or ordering clinical tests; synthesizing clinical information; chart documentation; interacting with the supervising attending physician. In a typical day, the practice provides care for 8-12 new patients, 25-40 established patients, and 15-25 patients receiving allergy injections or biologic therapy. APPs also may perform spirometry or exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) measurements. APPs also participate in handling phone calls from patients who require clinical advice of a complex nature.

The primary mission of the practice is to provide state-of the-art, comprehensive, compassionate care to each of our patients. We have a secondary mission of training the next generation of health care providers, and therefore, allergy-immunology fellows, internal medicine residents, and Northwestern University medical students also participate in providing care. In addition, there are 3 other APPs in our practice, there are 4 nurses and 2 medical assistants participating in patient care.
