Description

The Operations Manager, Digestive Health Center reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

This role provides direct oversight for the operations of the GI endoscopy labs. The NMH GI Endoscopy Labs are high-volume, fast-pace, innovative procedural areas providing care for both inpatients and outpatients. The department completes over 30,000 GI procedure annually. In this role, the Manger Operations works closely with staff, physicians and ancillary teams to ensure efficient, effective and high-quality operations. In addition to partnering with internal teams, the role is responsible for working with external vendors. The manager provides oversight for approximately 90 FTEs including nurses, procedure techs, coordinators and billing staff. In additional to the human resources oversight, key accountabilities include evaluating opportunities for improvement and implementing identified solutions, supporting and leading new project, workflow, and technology implementations. The manager is also involved in the annual budgeting process for the department. Responsibilities:

  • Operations:
    • Attracts, develops, and retains exceptional care givers and provides those care givers with an environment that fosters excellence through continuous learning
    • Collaborates with Human Resources and other managers to ensure appropriate staffing
    • Advances innovative retention strategies for staff
    • Collaboratively manages the disciplinary process when appropriate
    • Facilitates the annual performance review process
    • Ensure application of staffing tools
    • Manages people and resources to ensure safe and efficient patient care operations
    • Collaborates with the coordinator to ensure optimal staffing and scheduling practices are achieved
    • Embeds innovative strategies to support a healthy practice environment that encourages break time and reduces worker fatigue
    • Partners with the clinical and non-clinical support services departments to ensure optimal patient throughput
    • Supports care coordination and response to operational issues
    • Ensures sustained Control phase of DMAIC for all process improvement initiatives
    • Ensures regulatory and billing compliance
    • Performs assessments and evaluations to determine approach to implementation of new processes, protocols, and procedures
    • Responsible for Environment of Care
    • Identify processes and outcomes which are important for customer satisfaction, technical quality, regulatory compliance or other institutional priorities
  • Customer Focus:
    • Clearly identifies the internal and external customer(s) for their unit or service area and their respective requirements/expectations.
    • Actively seeks methods of concurrent and retrospective feedback from customers, listens to customer feedback and implements solutions and/or interventions as appropriate.

  • Additional Key Functions:
    • GI Endoscopy and related gastroenterology/hepatology niche programs:
    • Ensures all staff and shifts have appropriate supervision and monitoring to ensure effective, safe, efficient, productive and high quality operations.
    • Ensures a safe high quality work environment for the delivery of care and services.
    • Identify and manage cross-project dependencies and resolve conflicting priorities.
    • Facilitate and ensure cross-functional resource support for projects.
    • Advocates the use of effective and proven project management, quality process improvement methodologies and budget management techniques to support defined project objectives on-time and on-budget 
    • Coordinates the development and execution of the operational/system implementation, and communication plans for various cardiovascular projects.
    • Develops and maintains relationships with all customer including staff, physicians and vendors.
    • Establishes, implements, and monitors the unit or service areas capital and operating budget to achieve defined targets
    • Creates annual operating budget and is accountable for monthly financial performance
    • Creates and implements capital request, replacements and departmental projects
    • Partners with the leadership to advance improvement initiatives and opportunities
    • Advocates the use of effective and proven project management, quality process improvement methodologies and budget management techniques to support defined project objectives on-time and on-budget
    • Coordinates the development and execution of the operational/system implementation, and communication plans for various gastroenterology/hepatology projects.
    • Assist in monitoring and approving construction schedules with the expertise of the assigned Facilities Project Manager (when applicable)
    • Develops and maintains relationships with all customer including staff, physicians and vendors.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Clinical healthcare experience, and/or experience in related field with substantial healthcare knowledge
  • 3-5 years of work experience in healthcare
  • The individual shall be qualified by training; experience, interest, demonstrated current ability, and shall be willing and able to discharge the duties of his/her office.
  • The individual shall possess, interpersonal, and time-management skills, organizational skills and a working knowledge of trends in cardiovascular disease.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in science related field or Business/Health Administration
  • Strong project management and analytical skills
  • At least 4-6 years in a hospital business management environment
  • Gastroenterology, Hepatology, or General/Colorectal Surgery clinical experience
