The Director, Human Resources reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Reporting to the NMHC Vice President of Human Resources, the director is responsible for the effective identification and implementation of Human Resources initiatives, including employee, physician and patient engagement across the Northwestern Medicine system.  This position manages the assigned HR Business Partners, Engagement Coaches and Program Managers.


  • Manages the alignment, planning, organization and execution of the human resources and engagement strategies for the system at a local level.
  • Build trusting relationships with local Executive Sponsors to achieve financial and performance expectations through identifying needs and critical success factors.
  • Works in partnership with Centers of Excellence to implement and execute corporate programs at a local level.
  • Manages HRBP and engagement coaching activities and improvement plan execution for employee and physician teams ensuring alignment and consistency in approach.
  • Develop and execute internal communication plans for strategic initiatives focused on engagement and people.
  • Works closely with PI, Analytics, NM Academy and other system support functions to lead and create work plans that include training and development activities for staff/physicians at all levels.
  • Directs analytical work through effective prioritization, delegation, and management of data and analysis.
  • Collaborates with leaders to identify opportunities at organizational and department levels, and leads plan development and supports leaders in implementation.
  • Manages relationships with key internal departments, partnerships with external vendors and monitors the confidentiality, quality and accuracy of data shared/collected.



  • Bachelors degree
  • 7-10 years of experience in human resources, engagement, or leadership
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, and problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Seasoned project manager and facilitation skills
  • Proven senior management presentation skills
  • High level analytic skills and high degree of computer proficiency.
  • Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service orientation skills.


  • Master's degree
  • Performance improvement methodologies and organizational development experience
